And this is Mandy, sleeping most of the way home. She's a good traveler as well. We really are lucky to have such good animals to travel with.
Bob and I really had fun on the trip home. Each year we head off east through Kentucky as a diversion. This year we headed off to a restaurant we saw on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. The Smokey Valley Truck Stop is located in Olive Hill, Ky. which is on the far north east corner of the state. We didn't arrive until almost 4 in the afternoon but that worked out fine as we didn't have lunch so this was our lunch/dinner combo. And the food was great! Bob had smoked pork chop w/mashed potatoes, turnip greens and corn. I had roast beef (yep, more beef!), mashed potatoes, pickled beets and home made green beans. We also had their home made corn muffins and biscuits. But the best was the coconut cream pie. It was the BEST I've ever eaten. Bob isn't as fond of cream pies but he couldn't stop eating this pie either! You have to watch the video that was on the food network show.
Here is the video from the Diners, Drive-ins and Dives show. And the restaurant is exactly as it looks on the video. It was hard to find even with the Navigation system but the locals pointed us in the right direction. A fun day for sure.
Robbie - your blog is so cool! I got caught up on your whole winter the other evening... then as we were sitting here watching Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives, I read todays post where you stopped at one of the highlights! Too funny! We are getting ready for a vacation, and I was just about to see if there would be any good places along the way that we have seen on tv....we need to meet for lunch sometime!
