Weavers Guild Meeting - painting with chalk

We had a fun weaver's meeting yesterday. I showed the ladies a technique that was taught by Joyce (Wheat) at our Complex Cloth Fiber group last summer. It's called 'Chalk on fabric soaked in milk'! Yep, you soak your fabric in a milk/water solution then you 'paint' using chalk crayons, not sidewalk chalk. You need a high pigment chalk to paint your fabric. Oh, you're wondering about the milk...it acts as a binder for the chalk pigment...same as using soda ash when you are dyeing with fiber reactive dyes. So here are some pics of ladies working hard! I'll post pics tomorrow of their show and tell! Off to enjoy the beautiful weather! In the 70's today!
