The Freezer 2019 visit!

For those in the Ocala, Crystal River area, you are familiar with The Freezer Tiki Bar...or at least you should be!  I've posted about our winters in Florida and eating at this unique 'restaurant' the past few years.  It's one of Bob's most favorite places to eat.  And eat we do!  This week we headed for our last meal at The Freezer for 2019 (and possibly forever since we're not returning to Florida).  We had a ball with 3 other couples!!  Thanks for the memories!!

Here we are!

First off, I have to thank Jan and Larry for first introducing us to The Freezer back in 2013 (you can read about our '1st time' on this post)

They always add so much to making the trip a hoot!   They are also both as cute as can be.  Jan usually wears her cowboy hat but she looks just as adorable in this cap!

And here is Mr. GQ!

Howard and Karah have been friends (Howard golfs with Bob) for several of our years in Ocala Palms.

They are another wonderful couple and have such a great sense of humor.  Howard can tell  stories that are just a hoot and Karah adds those one liners that just make the story even better!

Carol and Dave are our next door neighbors here in Florida!  We thought Dave was such a quiet kind of guy BUT we were wrong!  He can get out of control easily.....but perhaps it's because Carol gets him out of control!  Carol is another lady who is just happy!  I love being around positive folks and this couple fit that bill!

They live in Michigan (Ohio border) and here in Florida so we're hoping to meet up with them this summer sometime.  Carol's brother lives in Fenton, which is only 25-30 min. from us!  A must meet up.

Yep, pitchers of beer are available and you're served the shrimp in a Styrofoam container!

Delicious steamed shrimp!!!!

Of course no visit to The Freezer is complete without a stop at the DQ!  This is all Larry's fault as he has investments in DQ...well, not really, but he should!  I don't think there's a DQ around Larry hasn't visited!  I do enjoy this part of our Freezer excursion!

You have to look carefully, but there's an Osprey on this nest....that nest has been here since we started coming in 2013!  Can you imagine how heavy it is!

And hubby and I.....so many memories....but we have lots of pictures in my blog to look back on our trip to The Freezer as well as other outings with the friends we've made here in Ocala.  Bittersweet to leave.....but thanks for the memories 'ya all'!

Freezer Time

On Monday, Bob finally got his wish to get to the Freezer for his favorite steamed shrimp!  Our first trip to the Freezer was February 2013...you can read and see some pics from that visit here.   These are pics from this week...not sure why they are so red...but you get the idea!
We always start off with a pretzel!

Great steamed shrimp!

And the best part on the way home!

Some of my readers know we get to the Freezer at least once in the winter...usually twice!  But this year we've been busy eating at different restaurants and the weather wasn't the best to be eating out near the water.  Hence, it will only be one time for shrimp this year!  But it was as good as ever!  And the stop at DQ is always the best part for me!

The Squirrel and more food! What else is there!

I have to keep taking pics of Mr. Squirrel because I like to document my process for quilts and more so for my beading.  Some of my readers may remember my leaf (you can see that progress here).

I do enjoy looking back as to how or why I started a project (thanks to Susan for the leaf!).  It's no different for this little guy! I started it February 2016 and did work on it while in Florida that winter. But after we got back home there wasn't much activity.  I brought him with me this year hoping I would get time to work on it.

Looking back on the 'start' I guess I have made progress.  Mr. Blue (decided to give him a name!) is 7 1/2" tall and 8" wide!  Beth (Quilter Beth's Blog) asked if he was heavy...yes, he's getting there.  I have not weighed my leaf, which is quite heavy too!  I will weigh them both when I get home.  I have a kitchen scale that should work perfect.  Never thought of weighing them before!  Thanks for the question, Beth!
I've added some lighter beads on his belly and will be add some for his face too.  He is kinda cute and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can keep his face features!!!

This past Monday we headed to the Freezer with our mates Jan, Larry, Karah and Howard...shrimp was good as ever...how can it be bad.  The place was packed when we arrived but we (really it was Jan!) asked  folks at a table if we could have dibs on their table when they finished!  I didn't get a picture but Jan.  She had on a blue cowboy hat and looked adorable so how could they refuse!  Worked out great!  You have to stand in line to order so we sat quickly while the guys stood in line!

And, as always, we had to stop at DQ!  Actually, that's the main reason I like to go to the freezer!  Another good meal!!  And experience!!  Gotta love Florida winters!

And more stuff

So about a week ago we headed to the Freezer Tiki Bar for Bob's favorite meal.  We picked up Marilyn and John @ 2 and headed off to meet Jan and Larry!  Then to the shrimp!!
The Freezer  is Bob's most favorite place to eat...even though he doesn't like to eat with his fingers, he does a good job of it!

And a few shrimp.  To be honest, eating about 5-6 is enough for me!  I won't say how many are in the container but there are a lot!!! And I even brought some home!  That's because Bob bought two containers of shrimp and he ate an entire one himself!

Of course, I had my favorite pretzel!

It was a beautiful day so we ate outside...actually, we didn't have a choice as the inside was packed.  But like I said, weather was beautiful and perfect for eating out!

My favorite part of going to the Freezer is the stop on the way home!  It's to DQ!  Nothing like ending a meal with a Blizzard!

I'm sure we'll be heading to the Freezer at least one more (or more!) time before we head north!  It's tradition!

Another night at the Freezer!

I  forget to post earlier this week our Freezer night out!  Monday afternoon we picked up Hamill's and LaPlante's and headed over to the Miller's for a night of shrimp at the Freezer!  This isn't a place to eat for everyone but it is my hubby's favorite, as it is for the rest of the gang!  We had a fun night as usual...which you can see below!

This is the back of Larry's shirt!  A Valentine gift from his beautiful wife to him.  Seemed to fit the night except there were no margarita's involved in this dinner!

Patricia is trying to tell everyone to behave!  They don't really listen!

Bob has a picture of Jan doing what Patrick is doing now...only she was more lady like using only 1 pitcher!

This is a hard group to keep control of!

Bob looks like he just got caught at doing something bad!  Probably was!

And of course, the main reason I like to go!  Blizzard's at Dairy Queen!!!  Yes, I can be bought for chocolate (only dark) and Blizzards!

Another great night of good food and good company...and we also ended up at Harry's with J and L Tuesday!  No eating out on Wed. but back at it on Thursday with the gang!  Now I'm off to do my 7 minute exercise which needs to be 171 minutes at the very least!  Whew!  Retirement in Florida is a lot of work!

Food Time (again!)

Because I'm SO busy eating out....I had created this post but it never got to be "posted"!  So since I'm busy getting some of our items packed up to head home in May, I might as well post this now!!  And tonight is 99 cent margarita night...may be our last visit until next year!

This was from March 31st!

Yep...it's been eat, eat, eat...and yes, a few drinks too!  But mainly it's been having fun nights out with friends!

On Monday, we headed out with Howard and Karah to meet up with Larry and Jan then off to the  FREEZER!
In case you are wondering what it says on Howard's shirt...

The Freezer is one of our favorite places to eat...right on the water and no wait staff!  You place your order for steamed shrimp, baked pretzels, clam chowder at the bar!  Oh, drinks are super cheap...

Here are Jan & Larry, hamming it up!

At the Freezer, I get a Mike's Lemonade Margarita with a plastic cup that has salt on the edge!!  Cheaper than if I would purchase at the local grocery store.  Who knew!  Your wine is also served in a plastic cup!

But it's the best steamed shrimp around!!  You are given your order in a plastic to go box...but who cares...it's the best!!!

And of course, the company is perfect!  Lots of laughs in between mouthfuls of shrimp!

This is one of our empty containers!  Might not look very appetizing but the seasoning on this steamed shrimp is!!!

And last but not least, we always have to stop at another local hangout!  Can you guess!!

Gotta love our adventures at the Freezer!  Of course, Wednesday was 99 cent margarita night, so guess what we did last night!  Yep..another night out with friends!

And tonight was our usual Thursday night with the 'gang' at our community restaurant.  Delicious meal, good drinks and laughs galore!  The best folks are here in Ocala for sure!  Life is good!

NOW BACK TO YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED POSTS!  At least I hope so!!

Fabric, Friends, Food & Fun!

In between nights eating out...yea, that again!  I have been making snap bags...

Made this one....

And these.....

And this one!

OK, so I might quit for the time being...although, you just never know do you!!!  They have all been given away to special family and friends!

And check out what I got in the mail last week!!  More beads!!! These are from my blogger friend, Sherry, over at Createology!  And isn't the color of the beads perfect for Zachery!!  I sure think so!!!

I love all the colors of green in this bag. Thank you, Sherry!!!!

I went through separating beads for three other folks that I thought could use some of Susan's donation!  Last Monday I sent a box onto one of my friends who does crazy quilting.  She did receive her box and I know will put them to good use.  I also made up two more packages to give to some other ladies.   Thanks again, Susan!  You've made several of us very happy!  So nice to share my good fortune with others!

And just because I'm behind in posting nights out with friends...this was last Wed. night at our favorite Mexican hang out!  El Toreo's 99 cent margarita night and great food to boot with great friends!

This is Karah and Howard enjoying a brew with us!  Neither of them took advantage of the 99 cent margarita and instead chose a Mexican beer and a Paloma.  Yes, this is the Karah and Howard who introduced me to Paloma's at their open house.  You can read about it here.

And last night, we took them to the Freezer, picking up Larry and Jan along the way!  And yes, I had my 'margarita'...in a plastic cup with salt on the rim!!  How'd they do that!!
Yes, our buddy posing for his picture!
A plastic cup with salt on the rim!!
Yes, the shrimp really are that big, Howard!!
Beautiful Jan with hubby!

We just love going to The Freezer Tiki Bar!!!  Such a quaint, local hangout!  Paper cups, Styrofoam containers to eat out of!  What memories we've had with great friends!

Tomorrow I'll post pictures of our tour around Homosassa!  Due to the knowledge of Jan & Larry!  They always give us a tour when visiting in their area!
