Found Another Small Quilt!

 Back before my Ohio trip, I posted on finding some small art quilts...most from my online class with Hilary.   I was in my sewing room and looked up on my cork board and guess what!  I found another one!  HA  

It's the pink one upper left!  

It's already sandwiched and quilted...but needed binding or the edge cleaned up!  Now the story behind how this one happened to be created!  

I don't remember how the birds got in the photo that was on my blog!  Knowing Bill, he just happened to find the birds on the tree and took the pic!  

You can see above where I added more branches to the trees just to fill in.  Again, this was part of an exercise in Hilary's class.

This was the screen I had made from my friend's better half in Florida.  Bill is a photographer who takes great pictures.  This tree was actually growing in the front of the community where Bob and I would winter in Ocala.  The tree was going to be cut down so Bill took a photo and  I asked if I could copy the pic and hence, had a thermofax screen made from the original picture.

The little quilt was completed by free motion quilting but I never finished the edges.  So that's what I did!  I couldn't decide how to finish.  I got lazy and decided to just use an embroidery stitch on the edges.

Just a funky stitch but does the purpose of keeping edges from fraying.  I need to clean up edges and maybe fill in with paint to cover the batting or threads showing.  But otherwise, this bugger is finished!  Onto the next block to finish!

Another Small Quilt Block

I posted several weeks ago about finding more quilt blocks to finish.  The quilting was finished on this one quilt but the edges weren't finished.  So I've been trying to finish them up somehow!  

I had some good suggestions on FB so I decided to take the easy way out and just stitch around the edge of the quilt.  This piece is about 10" x 11 1/2" 

You can see the embroidery stitch I used for the edges.

This was part of Hilary's class for us to create a design based on pages from magazines.  We had to add our own ideas!  What fun to do.  

The leaves were all painted on paper then free motion stitched on batting.  

It's been so long since I sandwiched a quilt!  I had to have one (or more!) of my textile buds remind me to just fuse fabric on the back before I finished the edges!  

Geeezzzz  Thank goodness for my blog so I can see what I should do!  My memory sure isn't helping me!  HA

Another one finished!  Not sure if I have anymore small blocks.  Perhaps, I can finish the needlepoint piece!!

 Yep!  I'm on a roll...a few years back I took several online classes from Hilary (her FB page is here and her online shop is here).  I have a huge tub of papers I've printed as well as several small wall quilts I've made in her class.  My readers know I've always enjoyed taking classes from Hilary.  I started some of her classes in 2019!  I learned so much from her and the classes are also fun!

 I found a few pieces that I made in her class a few years ago.  This one I finished in  2020.  The background is paper I stenciled and the leaves were cut out of paper that I dyed/painted both from one of Hilary's classes.  

Hilary was teaching us to not be afraid to draw!  Yikes!  those who know me know I am very intimated by drawing of any type!

  

Actually, Hilary made it less scary for us and we even could trace from time to time!!  Woohoo!  This drawing was my design inspiration to make the small quilt above.

You can see the bubble background that I stenciled in pale colors,  then I free motion quilting around those bubbles.  

I could have done a better job of adjusting the tension on my machine but this was just suppose to be for fun!  HA

I have batting on the back of the bubble paper, which I believe I used 505 spray adhesive on the papers to adhere to the batting.  Then I added the leaves/stems and quilted to attach.

You can really see the tension problem...but from a 747! you can't tell!  HA  

I do remember liking this piece..so much so, it's been hanging on my design board since!  HA  Now to decide how to finish the edges.  

Oh, and if you're wondering...YES, I am taking another online class from Hilary starting in September!  It's called SCREEN PRINTING WITH NATURE!  

I may have another knitting project to work on but I need to get back to making quilts.  I've forgotten how much I miss it!  Although, I'm missing having a knitting project as well!  So much to do and not enough time to do it all!  HA
