It's time to stamp!!!

I made this stamp from the moldable foam
We're working on using stamps this next month or two in Hilary's online class.  I'm a tad behind....Hilary did some great lessons on color and mixing colors, etc.  It's too hard for me to work on that segment because I don't have a good area to set up all the paints and papers.  I'll have to wait until we get home but I will do that assignment.

This past week our lesson started off with using stamps on our paper(s) and over dyeing.  Some of you may recognize the stamps I've used as I've posted some of my work when I originally made them...but I never used them like this!  HA

The over dyeing will have to wait for a day or two.  I didn't bring any of my commercial stamps with me but I did bring some of my old lino cut and foam stamps I've made in the past.  Can't wait to over dye and then use some of these in blocks.

Hilary showed us how to create a flower with our stamps!

But I couldn't let well enough alone!  HA  Just had to add more to it!

This is a stamp I made in Djanne's online class in 2009!  Can't believe it was that long ago.   It's what I used to stamp over my flower above.

Then I used just the stamp to create some patterns...not bad...kinda like it!

I just stamped in different directions on both these pieces.

Then I used the stamps I made using the sticky foam onto cardboard.  These stamps are getting a little worn but still usable!  HA

Changed colors too

I added yellow and orange stamps on top of the red stamped areas.

I have to say this was as much fun if not more fun than stencils!!!  Can't wait to overdye!!

Creating Background Fabric - Day 1

Sometimes you just have to play with your paints, stamps and fabric!  So that's what I did!  I showed the results of using the iron to transfer rubbings in my last post.  This time I decided to do the old fashioned way of stamping and rubbings!

Above picture is a stamp I carved several years ago along with a negative of the same stamp I made using the foam (green stamp - you heat it and stamp with your stamp!).

Another stamp I made...

I stamped two of these pieces, which are Pat Campbell's fossil fern yellow, with the stamp above.

Above is a stamp I carved this past winter with our little fiber group in Florida.

I ended up using the stamp above as well as using the smaller tree stamp in previous pics.

The stamp above is actually sticky foam I cut and put on a piece of cardboard.  It's been getting a lot of use and I'm not sure how much longer it will last but so far so good!

The stamps above are positive and negative stamps.  Again, I carved the bottom stamp and then did an imprint on to heated foam to create a negative stamp.

I used a canvas fabric for this stamping.  All the rest of the pieces are muslin (bleached) or JoAnn's white Egyptian fabric.

This is a roller type stamp...not even sure where I got it from!  But it worked out pretty good.

This is a piece of fabric that was screen printed using deconstructed screen printing technique...I think this was about the fourth or fifth pass.  Nothing exciting....

But after stamping using Neocolor 1 pastels, I am really happy with this piece.  I actually had two of these pieces I stamped.  Again, I used Neocolor 1 and an oil pastel crayon.

I did several other pieces that I didn't take photo's of...but my next post will show some of those as well as some from this post that I painted over with dye!  What fun!  I was inspired by Hilary B., who does wonderful work and shares so much!  I love her embroidery stitching she does with floral designs.  Just fantastic work.  Check her out!!

More layering!

First, here is another shibori piece I dyed over the weekend.  I'm happy with results...now to use it in a project!
Well, what else do you do when you have 'ugly' or not so great results from dyeing or printing fabrics!  You redo them somehow!  That's what I did yesterday with some buds here in Florida.  These are all scrap pieces with exception of the blue mono printed.  That is a full yard of fabric I dyed several years ago.
Before

After - stamping

Before

After - mono printing

These next pieces were some of my Solar Fast failures - only because I forgot and left them out in the sun after I removed the transparency!!  Once you rinse them the dye image/print is set...big oops but a great opportunity to 'fix' the failures! All of these were stamped.

This was an old mono print I had done a few years ago so I just stamped with metallic paint. I know I can use all of these pieces somewhere in my upcoming projects!
