When you're bored it's hex time! Or is it knitting time!

I've been bored at night with no hand work so I pulled out some of my hex's I had packed away.  I just can't sit at night watching TV.  Have have to be busy.  HA

I am adding white and some pattern fabrics to this collection..what am I making, you ask?  Well, I have NO idea!  It's busy work!  I get bored, remember!

I have also been looking at a few knitting patterns....this is a really cute sweater on Craftsy.com

I would knit this in a cream or white...isn't it cute!!
The reviews are mixed on the instructions...some say even an experienced knitter had a problem with them.  Then another person will say "no problem...well written"....hmmmmm  I think it's a chart which may have caused issues with some...I'll wait until we get to Florida and I may just try to order the pattern.

And, I wish I saved the blog where someone posted a link for these adorable knitted rabbits!  Thank you whoever!  How cute is she!!!  They have pigs, elephants and rabbits...so adorable!  I am going to purchase a pattern or two.

I 've gone to the Little Cotton Rabbits web site and to her blog.  This is a link to her Facebook page...and here is her blog and then all the patterns for her little animals!

I say "her" because I didn't find her name yet!  But it doesn't matter...her patterns are adorable and from the reviews, instructions are spot on!

I will definitely be making a few of these while in Florida...well, that's my plan...if I have time between buds, art work, dinners out, and of course, my margaritas!

Honest, I'm still here!

This is always a busy time for me (and others!  HA)....not a lot of art work being produced but I will find time to knit....

or hand sew hex's (what else!)...I have two projects in the works...I get bored working in one colorway!  HA

Not sure what I'll do with these hex's...but it will be fun to have for a project, right!

and I  played with a quick technique....my bud, Carol, gave me the current/winter copy of Cloth-Paper Scissors magazine.  She thought I'd be interested in the article by Birgit Koopson on Resist Gel-Plate printing.  Birgit has written posts for the Geli Arts blog as well as her own blog/magazines/etc.

This are Birgit's results.....

And mine...not so great but it was fun to try....

This was just a picture of landscape from a Nat Geo magazine

This was a picture of a Tiger from Nat Geo...you can see some of his stripes on the right side and his whiskers!!

Again, fun to try and who knows I might give it a go this winter and try printing on fabric.

This particular article was also on the Geli Art blog written by Birgit...you have to fast forward to get to the magazine transfer part but it's an interesting video.

And I did bake for Thanksgiving dinner at my son's house, which was wonderful. Got to see and talk with Amber.  She was home for a few days from college.

I have finished a MAJOR project I've been working on over the summer/fall for a special Christmas gift...but I can't show it until after Christmas!  I am so happy with the results and can't wait to gift it!!!  So now it's time for decorations to be up, Christmas cards to mail, packing of my art supplies and time to shop for gifts!  I am behind with gifts this year but most will be getting gift cards....kids buy what they want so hard to surprise them!

Busy Work

It's been a busy week and the weekend will be taken up with painting the deck!  Bob only has a few boards left to replace!

Woohoo!  I finished all the white spindles last weekend so now we can start on the beige deck painting.  Floor will be last, of course, but at least I can start scrapping and get the painting finished on the upper boards.  We're suppose to have below 80 or 90 degree weather, which will be good.  We're always painting when it's 80 or 90 degrees out!  I've said for years that it's too hot to paint in that temperature.  We'll see if painting in the 70's works better!

With rainy days this week, I have been sewing.....

I took a piece of stamped fabric I did last winter and free motion quilted the piece.  I cut out sections about 6"x8" so I can use for fabric cards.

Evenings are filled up with working on my hex pieces! I'm wearing my splint while sewing these paper pieces, which I think is helping my wrist when I sew.  There are 123 pieces here! Doesn't look like that much but it is!  I've got a ways to go since I want to do the entire piece of fabric in hex's...mainly because I don't know what I'm going to do or how many pieces I'll need.

And good old Mr. Blue is coming along!!!  His feet are all beaded and now I just hope I have enough beads left for the remainder of his body!!!  Yikes!!!

I'm also trying to decide how to quilt a background piece for my beaded leaf.  Once quilted, I'll be wrapping around a canvas.  I'll take to my fiber meeting next month for input from the ladies.

So that's my week so far!!!

Another Hex Project

Seriously?  Yes, another hex project...I love hex's (as my readers know!) and with football season upon us it's the best project to have on hand while watching football!  Which I love!!

I bought this fabric this past winter in Florida on an outing with my bud, Susan!  I thought it was so pretty with the movement of the color.

So what else to do with this but cut it up and sew it back together again!!  I also found some batik fabric that should match.  Not sure what I'm going to do but it will be the same technique I used for my horse hex pieces.

I started sewing some hex's this past weekend while watching the Lion's play...after I finished painting all the remaining spindles!  We're almost ready to start painting the deck once Bob finishes replacing some more boards.  I should be able to start painting the top deck at least!  Floor will be last, obviously!

My own carpenter!

A modern quilt? Maybe!

So, as I was trying to get to sleep the other night, I got thinking about some of the modern quilts I've seen.  I haven't made a 'quilt' size quilt in quite sometime.  So that, along with pictures of modern quilts in my head (to put me to sleep!) I decided to start making one on Thursday!

This was my start!  I knew I wanted to use white cotton sateen for the background and wanted something bright AND I wanted to use hex's in the quilt!   So, I started to slice and dice, as they say!

I purchased these fabrics while in  Florida to make the wine cozies for my sister and friends.  Just happen to have enough to cut into wedges for my blocks.

Yes, the girls had to help!  Actually, we had to have our air conditioner replaced today so the girls were watching out the window at the servicemen.  Kept them occupied!

These are the blocks I made, which measure 12" x 16"...next up I looked in my stash of hex's already made up...I did find some to go with my color theme but I needed more so I made a few more from the scrap fabric I had left from the wedges.

And this is what I've come up with so far!  Looks like a lot of hex's but not really...at least I don't think so at the moment.

So far I have the two rows sewn to white blocks, which will have hex's on them, as well as the borders.   I already know how I'm going to quilt the piece...I'll outline the hex's and continue with the hex 'outline' throughout the piece...quilting in white thread, of course...or perhaps teal.  I must still have our grand daughter's wedding party color in my head!  HA

OK, I really don't know the layout for the hex's yet.  That will have to take place tonight or tomorrow night when I'm trying to fall asleep!  I accomplish a lot at night...in my head!
