Friends and Football!

Busy week last week and I'm sure this week will be pretty much the same!  After painting the deck  last Thursday and Bob finishing installing the last of the top boards, we had a late lunch/early dinner then off to Nick's first freshman football game.  It was a really good game! And I love the new scoreboard at the high school!  What fun!

 Wow..those kid were good!  They ended up winning 28-0.   Nick is a center/2nd string this year and only got in a few plays but they got a touch down!  Woohoo!  This is different for Nick since he's always played both offense and defense these past few years.  But it's a good learning experience for him and I know he'll do just fine.  He's a hard worker and if he keeps working it will pay off.  I'll still go to the games as long as 1. it's not raining!  2. the game is within 20 miles!  HA


Friday, I met up with my bud, Alice and the daughter of my friend, Patty, who passed away a few years ago.  Lisa met Alice and I at Honcho's Restaurant and we had a really good meal.  I brought along some old pics of Lisa's mom as well as of Alice and I.  It was nice to look at them and try to remember we were young at one time!!!  This was Patty years ago.  She was an airline stewardess as well as a model.  She was a beauty!

After lunch, we headed to Lisa's beautiful home for some home made blueberry pie she made!  OMG...it was so good...and Lisa also made a chocolate sheet cake!  Well, double yum!!!!

We talked about recipes and of course FaceBook that seems to have one recipe after another!   We did have a nice afternoon and talked a lot about Patty, Lisa's mom.  She would be so proud of the wife, mother and woman Lisa is today.  We're going to try and meet up again before we head to Florida or at least when we get back.

It was such a nice afternoon....but then it's always nice to be with friends and family.

Yep, another hand project!

I'm making good progress on the Challenge piece I need to complete this winter for a group in Florida.  Can't show the entire piece but you've seen pieces of it before...

Because I do get bored easily....and I like having different projects to work on depending how my mood and how well my hands are working...I decided another hand project was needed.  After all, I have my Valentine fiber cards which are all machine work and the Steampunk piece is requiring some fabric I need to dye....so...I decided to start another hex project.

Actually, this piece will be for the online challenge for Art Quilts Around the World.  Their next challenge is 'Science'.  I had been on 'sabitical' for the past few challenges because of my hands/wrists and other priorities so I'm hoping I can finish this piece for the November 30th due date!
This is the start, using hexes, of course!

Can't tell you what it's going to be just yet....and I need to make around 20 more 5/8" hexes so I can then rearrange then start piecing.  I love piecing hexes!!  Well, to be honest, I just love  hand work...but then you've heard that before haven't you!  Here are all the  hexes in a row ready to be sewn together.  It's Survivor night so I hope to start on them tonight!

Several years ago I was part of 30 folks who created works of art for a DNA exhibit in Flint.  I had to make a piece of art to represent Chromatin Fiber!  Yea, I didn't know what it as either and had to research.  Anyway, this was the piece I created.

You an read about my piece and exhibit here.  So based on the research I did then is how I came up with this project!  One of those ideas in my head...hoping to put it to fiber!

Tuesday I headed down to Nick's last football game of the season.  It was 76 degrees and beautiful out!!!  Hard to believe.....especially when you live in Michigan.  Today it was rain and in the 50's...go figure!

 The game ended in a tie, which was good because the 8th graders had to be back at the school by 6:30 for their field trip to D.C.!  The game ended at 5:35 p.m.  All the parents were rushing to get their kids home for a shower and food so they could get back to the school.  Nick was quite excited to get on the road....sure brings back memories of the good old days!!!

Winter is here!

Well, it really is almost winter...we actually had snow showers yesterday afternoon!  It's hard to see in this picture but those tiny white dots are snow showers!  OK, so you can't see the white dots...but we did have snow!

It sure didn't stop the Trick 'N Treaters last night...kids are resilient that's for sure.  Bob was complaining all night about how cold it was but not all the kids complained.



I think he forgot what it was like when you were a kid...cold never bothered us especially when there was a reward like candy!!!









Kalee was a doll again for Halloween!!!  She would sit at the door but never venture out on the porch.  She just looked at the kids and waited for the next group.

  We ended up with 177 kids...and yes, I keep track each year.  The least amount we had was 99 and the most was 298 in 2006.  I refuse to buy more than 200 pieces of candy.  We did have candy left over but Bob will take care of those!


Today I did some laundry and cleaning then off to start another project.

Nick was playing in their Super Bowl today.  I decided I was a wimp and didn't go.  It's only 34 degrees out and windy.  I can sit in the rain or cold and watch Nick's games....but I sure pay for it the next day.  The old bones can't handle that cold and wind.

Nick's game didn't start until 3:30 so we are waiting to hear if they won the Super Bowl...if not, they've had a great season!

Off to put dinner on the table then more sewing!  Love staying inside!!!
