Busy, Busy!

Of course, I've been busy!  I don't think either Bob or I know how to just sit ALL day long and not doing anything.  I'm still walking 2 miles a day, weather and our schedules permitting with my neighbor, which is great!  The girls still get their 2 walks a day as well but that's only 1/2 mile...still we get lots of fresh air!

I am excited about the workshop I took yesterday from Margarita K (Margas Crafts).  This was a Zoom class with four other ladies.  We were all from different states (Florida, Tenn., etc.) and a nice group!  We learned how to make Margarita's Instant Paper Cloth technique, which I been wanting to learn since I started following her blog.  This was my result!

I am excited about the workshop I took this past Friday from Margarita K (Margas Crafts). This was a Zoom class with four other ladies. We were all from different states (Florida, Tenn., etc.) and a nice group! We learned how to make Margarita's Instant Paper Cloth technique, which I been wanting to learn since I started following her blog. This was my result!

Margarita did a wonderful job teaching via Zoom!  First she would tell us what we were going to do then she had each step on video so we could watch before we attempted each of the steps.  Her class/teaching was very easy to follow.  I purchased her kit, which  I would recommend, and it was good so I didn't have to hunt around for what I may need or get the wrong supply.

Margarita was very organized and answered any and all questions..she is a doll and such a sweet lady!  Plus, with her being in her own home, we got to see a lot of her work as well as some extra techniques!  I definitely would take another class from her and if you follow her blog, you'll see the classes she has available..I don't think you'd be disappointed at all.  Now I need to start saving magazine and newspapers!!!!

I also made an apple pie today!  Beautiful fall day, even thought it's not officaly fall yet...but just had to go to the orchard to get some apples...not the prettiest pie but I think it will be taste good!!!  Our first apple pie of the summer/fall!

I'm also working on knitting a swatch for a cotton T pattern I want to make...actually, my sister is going to make it as well.  My yarn is a mint green..doesn't show up as pretty as in person but have to get my gauge right before I start..may need to go up a needle!  We'll see!

Margarita Korioth - Margas Crafts

Paper and fabric quilt by Margarita
I have followed Margarita's blog for the past several years and have created posts on her work on my blog.   She is a textile artist, author and teacher who works with fabric as well as with paper and fabric!

If you aren't familiar with her blog, I'm sure you have seen many articles she has written for magazines on some of her techniques (e.g. Quilting Arts, Simply Moderne).  I've loved her work but knew I wouldn't be traveling to any quilt shops, even before the Covid pandemic to take one of her classes.  How thrilled was I seeing her blog post the other day on Virtual Workshops via Zoom!!!!

Of course I emailed Margarita immediately to inquire on two of her workshops and this is her response:

Hi Robbie,

I am offering to groups of minimum 6. Cost: $50.00 each for a 6 hour class or divided in two days, 3 hours each day. The Hand Applique with Paper class has a kit for 30.00 dollars. The Instant Paper Cloth could have a kit -17 dollars- or not.

Also offering to Guilds.

I don’t have a small group formed yet.  Will let you know.
Stay safe
Margarita

Do check out Margarita's work on her blog if you aren't familiar with  her special techniques.  And if you are familiar, send her an email (margascrafts@gmail.com) and let her know you're interested in one of her workshops!  I can't wait!!!!

Yep, another project in the works!

Well, so far, this isn't a project (although, I have in mind a use for this technique!).  I've posted before on Margarita, from Margas Crafts, and her work with sun printing as well as her techniques for creating infused paper/fabric.  This past April/May 2018, Margarita had an article in the Quilting Arts magazine called A Way With Words.  She has had several articles in QA as well as Simply Moderne magazines but this particular article caught my mind...which is dangerous isn't it!

I finished up my projects, so it's time to start some more, (Blue Squirrel is back out as well as my beaded leaf - stay tunred!)

For now, I'm playing with this fabric/paper technique.by Margarita.  First up, I went through some of my old National Geographic magazines.  I have so many of these and love the colors on the pages.  Figured this would be a good way to use them!

Some with words....

I did like the colors in this section of ripped pages....

Those 'eyes' are the tops of buildings in Argentina!  Well, they looked like eyes to me!

Next I covered  craft mixed media sheets with acrylic medium and laid out stripes of ripped magazine pages.  I used both text and selected areas of color from the pages.

The collage pages are drying as I type this!  Next up, I'll be adding some transparent paint on top.  When that dries, I'll decide where and how I'm going to use pieces of them.  If you have the QA magazine for April/May 2018, check out Margarita's article.  You can also purchase a digital copy (which is what I do if I see something interesting!).  And keep an eye out for other articles by Margarita!  She is one busy lady and will also be teaching at the AQS show in the fall!

Look what I won!!!

Yep!  I won a copy of Simply Moderne magazine!

Margarita Korioth had a give away on her blog for the magazine, Simply Moderne and I commented and won this issue!  How cool is that!  To be honest, I have never seen this magazine so I was really excited to win it.  Margarita has an article with instructions  (six whole pages!) for Sun-Less printing in this issue, in the project section.

And this is the finished quilt Margarita made from her technique and  which she shows in the article.  I  loved the blue/fern pattern!!!

I've followed Margarita Korioth's blog for quite sometime now...and not because she has the perfect first name!  Figured I'd say something about that before my blog readers do! HA

Anyway, Margarita is a mixed media quilter!  You have to check out her blog for the art work/quilts she creates using newspaper, magazine pages, etc.!  They are so cool!

Recently I ordered a digital copy of the April/May 2018 Quilting Arts magazine just to read her article on using papers in a quilt.  I've ordered and received the mixed media craft paper she references in that article but won't start on the technique until I finish Nemo!!

This is a  picture of the quilt in the QA magazine article that Margarita created.     Look at those birds and her amazing quilting.  Her quilts are always so happy or cheerful!!!!   Margarita shows her work in progress as  well as completed works on her blog.  I really enjoy see her quilts in progress!!!

Here are some other pages from my 'win' magazine to peak your interest!  It really is a nice, well laid out magazine.  This was an article on Quiltcon in Pasadena.  Lots of quilt photo's for inspiration!

Check out this quilt by Stephanie Skardal, Clemmons, North Carolina.  I love this!!!

This was another quilt that that is so unique by Julie Haddrick, Adelaide, South Australia....love this

And lots of projects in this issue as well!  That was really a surprise to me.

This was a quilt I thought looked like it would be fun to  make!

This was really an interesting project!
I've read and reread my magazine several times and I'm taking it with me on Monday to our fiber art meeting to show the ladies.  I did find the Simply Moderne  magazine on Amazon - go figure!  Lots of back issues to order.  Guess I better put the magazine down and get back to my fish!!!

Make sure you stop over and see Margarita's work/blog and sign up to receive her posts via email!  You'll be amazed at her workmanship and inspired by her finished work!  You don't want to miss out seeing any  of her current work!
