And another friend!

My  post yesterday showed some great work from a few of my Florida buds!  Today, I'd like to focus on the person who introduced me to Nancy and Beth.  Her name is Kay Sorensen and I know some of my readers already know and follow her blog,  Quilts plus Color!

I actually 'met' Kay in person at a trunk show I did back in February 2012!  You can read about that meeting here.  Kay and I were in a slice project with Tommy (The Material Girl) called To Market. in 2011.   As we talked that first day, we finally realized why our names were familiar!  HA  This was the quilt we each contributed a section on (there were sixteen of us).  We were juried into the IQA show in Huston
This was Kay's section (with her picture that she had replicate on the right)

And my section

So that was our first connection.  After that, Kay invited  me to her house for a lunch and we've been buds every since.

Kay is an artist/dyer extraordinaire!  Last month and thru March 19th, folks living near Keosha, WI will have been and will be able to see Kay's work as she has over 70 "Ice Tapestries and Shibori Quilts" on display at the Anderson Arts Center!  I can't imagine seeing all these pieces in one place!!  I have seen pictures on her blog as well as in a book Kay put together and it is awesome to see her hand dyed and shibori fabrics 'show ready'.
I hope you enjoy seeing just a few pictures of Kay's work here on my post.  Grab a cup of coffee or glass of wine and head over to Kay's blog here and enjoy  seeing all of her creations!  It is inspiring for sure.  And I thank Kay, again, for introducing me to both Nancy and Beth!  You can't beat friends!

Day at Spruce Creek!

I met up with Kay today, along with another friend of hers, Nancy.  First we had lunch then off to an Art Quilt Group meeting at Spruce Creek in Summerfield.

Kay is a member of the art guild and, it just so happened,  I  did a trunk show there about two years ago.  They are a nice group of ladies with skills all over the place!  What a fun group.  And before I forget ladies, the thread I use for my beading is called Silamide and I purchase online from The Beadwrangler's Thread Shop.   Some bead shops do carry smaller amounts on cards but it's more economical to purchase a spool.  They will last forever and the thread is great for beading on quilts and canvas.

I'm loading these pics as 'small' because I took so many of them!  Just click on the ones you want to have a closer look at.  The meeting was so interesting....and at the end of show and tell, they had a great discussion based on Ann Johnston's book, The Quilters Book of Design.  They used the book as a way to discuss design principles.  Really a fun exchange and quite interesting!    I have more pics but having a hard time getting them turned properly...so enjoy what's here!  I apologize for not putting names on each of the pics but I have a hard time remembering Wednesday's are 99 cents margarita night!  My grand daughter has to call and remind me!  So you can see why I don't remember everyone's name!
This was a prayer flag created by Beth for the 'teacher' on the left!

This is flyer from the exhibit in Hawaii for KAPA...so interesting!!!

Hard to see but pics of the 'Kapa' on display .

A free form quilt Kay is working on.  Go to her blog to see more of her work!

A member's first attempt at Kay's method for free form.  Nice!

Old Dresden Plates - I think she had 18 of them!!!  Wow!

One of Kay's current finished pieces!

I don't remember what this little 'thing' was called...nicely done.

Another smaller piece from a workshop

The following are a challenge between two ladies...a 12 x 12 quilt a month for 12 months!

These were so interesting!!!

Really cool aren't they!

Friends....

This past Friday, Kay and I were able to coordinate our schedules and meet for lunch!  And what a fun time we had!!

We met at BD Beans Cafe in Bellview (on 441)...what a unique place!!  I loved it...and the food was exceptional as well.  It was really fun to sit and chat with Kay and see some of her hand dyed/shibori/painted fabric in person!  I'm only putting a few of the pics I took as a tease for you to check out her blog here.

This is a quilt Kay made from her own design she had printed through Spoonflower.  Isn't it cool!  And as a bonus, you can purchase her fabric on the Spoonflower web site here.

I really like the design Kay came up with and the layout of this piece is wonderful.  The blue is so much more beautiful than what shows in this picture.
And, yes, that's Kay peaking out from the top of her quilt top!  I know, I know...never take a picture of a head or feet showing!  But, "it's my blog, and I can do what I what to"....

This is another shibori piece Kay dyed..I love, love the black/white/red!!!  Again, it's so much nicer in person!  Kay did bring along some other fabrics she had printed on Spoonflower from her own painted and quilted pieces, but you'll have to go to her blog to see them!  It's a treat to see how much Kay accomplishes in a week's time...even with her company and traveling!  My kind of lady!!!

Of course, Kay said that I had to see the bathroom at BD Beans...now for my followers on this blog, you know how I love to see bathrooms at businesses and home glam'd up!  You can see here and here on my blog.  Well, this one at BD Beans was certainly glam'd up!

Check out these pictures!!   I'm sure you'll see why we had such a good time!  Thanks for recommending BD Beans, Kay!  Can't wait to go back!!

As you come into the bathroom on the right you see this!

These are hung to the left of the small table above

Have you ever seen a window decorated this much!

And the sink area!
